PRICING + PAYMENT

You’ve probably heard that custom projects are pricey, and, well, it’s not not true. But, you get what you pay for — and here, you pay for years of learning and experience, an organized project management approach, quality materials, attention to detail, and results that are unique to you (on my most confident days I’d say those results are perfection, but I’ve got some residual Catholic guilt that says nobody and nothing is perfect, nice try, girl).

PRICING

Custom work means custom prices — so no set-in-stone price list — but here are a few markers for common projects to help you gauge what we’re talking:

custom invitations

Custom invitation suites start at $2,500.00 for 100 simple, digitally-printed suites comprising the main invitation, RSVP insert, mailing envelope with return address printing, and RSVP envelope with mailing address printing. I love to get creative with shapes, colors, printing methods, and assembly; more complex suites can run $5,000.00+. Spot calligraphy and simple illustration or pattern work are never extra.

envelope addressing

Hand-written envelope addressing begins at $5.00/envelope for guests’ mailing addresses; there is a minimum $150.00 order. This addressing service goes down to $4.00/envelope (with no minimum quantity) if you are also getting custom invitations!

day-of design

There are so many options! My mirror seating charts start at $500.00 for 100 guests, and welcome signs start at $150.00 — but there are also bar menus or signature cocktail signs, dinner menus, table numbers, favor signs, etc. …a whole world of possibilities! For a quote, contact me.

PAYMENT

A 50% deposit is required to start work, and the remaining balance is due before the final pieces are released. Cash and check accepted. Venmo preferred. And if it’s the difference between getting the job or not, sure, I’ll take credit card.

This feels like the right place to mention that I maintain the rights to all commissioned calligraphy and design work unless agreed upon in writing.

PROCESS + TIMING

Curious about what it’s like to get custom calligraphy and/or design work done? Unless you say it’s fully artist’s choice, working together is often a back-and-forth process that takes a few weeks, or even months, to complete. For example:

process

01. TALK IT THROUGH

We hop on a call and discuss your vision along with some logistics: What look and feel are you going for? And, what pieces do you want created? What’s your budget? The more information we can establish up front, the quicker we can get cookin’. P.S.: Sharing Pinterest boards is a great help for getting the creative gears turning!

02. TALK IT THROUGH (PART 2)

You might say this is the part of the process where I’m just a girl, standing in front a client, asking you to love this partnership and give the official go-ahead. Or, to not mis-quote Julia Roberts: I come to you with an idea board, quote, and preliminary timeline based on our initial conversation; you provide feedback, and an initial deposit.

03. SKETCH DRAFTS (INVITATIONS ONLY)

You’ll receive 3–5 different concepts from me. These are rough sketches — often pencil-on-paper — that illustrate different ideas and usually note options for materials, shapes, ornamentation, colors, patterns, and/or the like. You tell me what does or doesn’t work for you, and I refine in later drafts! For something like signage, this stage might be a Pinterest board or sharing samples.

04. DRAFTS 01–03 + FINALS (ish)

I share drafts and you provide feedback over three rounds of edits. You’ll need to provide your preferred copy in this stage of the process. For invites, this includes knowing your event website and catering options; for signage, think seating arrangements and bar and dinner menus. Signage usually includes fewer drafts.

05. PRODUCTION

Sit back and relax while I make stuff happen! We’re talking procuring supplies, proofing, printing, assembling, addressing, stamping, or whatever else the project entails. Then, you snap back into action to pay your balance, and I ship the assembled pieces to you or drop the goods in the mail to go directly to your guests.

LAST THING: GETTING INVITATIONS + MORE?

Getting invitations AND signage and/or other goodies? Firstly, bless you. Secondly, note that the projects can happen concurrently or in multiple phases, but knowing what pieces you want upfront can better open the door to a lot of creative cohesion across all the pieces!

TIMING

Custom pieces, custom timing. I’ll always do what I can to get a project out in whatever timeframe you’re working with, and to communicate my timing clearly throughout the project. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Plan to allow at least 3 months from kick-off to delivery for invitations (and remember that they should go out 6–8 weeks prior to your event!). If you’re getting more pieces designed, more time is ideal.

  • Just a sign or two? Allow a month or two for turn-around.

  • Envelope addressing will take a few weeks.

Here about an event? Just for kicks, allow me to share some typical timing to keep in mind:

  • RSVPs Due: At least a month before the event

  • Invitations Mailed: 6–8 weeks before the event

  • Save The Date Mailed: 6–12 months before the event
